Inspiring Guns tank Afghan War Rug
2004
Art Chicago, Navy Pier

This war rug was created over 5 days during Art Chicago 2004 at Navy Pier.

The installation is made of loose spices - poppyseeds, turmeric, sesame, pepper, mace, and others.

When it was completed, the "rug" was left unattended to invite interaction -- intentional and accidental. Some people walked right through it, others bent down to smell and examine it at closer range.

At the conclusion of the exhibit, 3 monoprints were pulled to record the distribution of the spices.
